The crime in New Orleans has always been a major factor.  Most people from here expect you to just get used to it and pretend it’s not as big a deal that they make it out to be.  I’ll be the first to tell anyone that it is as bad as it’s made out to be.  Worse even.  No matter how awful and senseless all the gang and drug violence is, it doesn’t hold a candle to all the atrocities being committed behind closed doors. The crimes against the children always grip me the hardest.  On a weekly basis we are delivered reports of multiple child rapes.  The stories all have a similar storyline.  “Mom’s Boyfriend”

This week alone we had two heinous attacks.  The first was the murder of 3-year-old Desmond Brown by his mother’s boyfriend. (Isn’t that always the case?) Timothy Reed, the man arrested for killing Desmond, has a criminal record consisting of murder, child abuse, and rape.  However, this is the man a woman trusted to take her son to the parades on Mardi Gras?

Elsewhere in NOLA we have a man raping a 13-year-old mentally disabled girl while the babysitter listened in the next room.  No. Seriously.  The babysitter left the young girl lying on a bed with a grown man in his boxer shorts.  She went to the other room and came back only when she heard the headboard banging.  **sighs**  No one is protecting the children.

I just need someone to look at both these men.  I could barely handle them taking out my garbage let alone leave a human life in the care of.  A Lot of single mothers get irritates and personally offended when I say anything remotely negative about the effects of the institution of single households on the urban community.  Of course there are good, honest, decent women who work hard to provide a stable household.  Everyone understands that and no one will dispute the strength of a good mother.  No matter if she’s married or not.  On the other hand there are these “breeders” that don’t treat their kids with any more care that they did their toy box barbie dolls.  The need for these breeders to have a man, any man, trumps everything.  Not only do they let these men move in and run all over them, but their children are fair game as well.  The dead beats that inseminate these breeders are no less blameless, but since the breeder barely got his name he gets to live free of the daily burden.  To create a life and then just walk away without any regard for how it will survive is a concept that my brain will never be able to dissect. You cant say anything about these breeders nowadays cause the regular single moms always jump in to defend them.  The subject is gonna be a sensitive topic, and I understand, because it is no woman’s fantasy to raise a child alone.  I also understand that you cant force a boy to be a man and sometimes they really do fool you.  However that is not the case for all and you can’t turn a blind eye to the neglectful mothering that is coming from these breeder homes.  Pedophilia is running rampant in the black community of New Orleans, and no one is speaking up for the children.  Don’t you think it’s time we started?  I just want people to be aware of how prevalent these stories are becoming.  We’re almost to the point of desensitization to child rape, and that’s a place the black community here can not afford to be.  Open your eyes.  Open your mind and be aware of the oversexed culture that has taken over.  You’re witnessing a severe breakdown in community.  If a child can;t trust its caregivers to protect him, then what chance does he have against the real world?
