Speaking at a meeting between owners, team executives and Commissioner Roger Goodell, Houston Texans owner Bob McNair reportedly said “We can’t have the inmates running the prison” in response to NFL players taking a knee during the United States national anthem.

On Friday last week, Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr. of ESPN.com detailed the protest-focused meetings this month, which featured both private gatherings and a separate large session that also included players. They noted McNair’s statement in the owners’ exchange of concerns “stunned some in the room.” Houston Radio Personality Devi Brown, wife of former Texans OL Duane Brown who played his first 10 years in Houston responded to a tweet about McNair’s comment, “My husband has put his BODY & MIND on the line for your team for 10 YRS & to you he is an “inmate”. You owe these players RESPECT & support” Texans played this past Sunday in Seattle and on Monday Brown was traded to Seattle. Athletes across sports were out of outraged by the statement. Some compared his statements to former Los Angeles Clippers owner, Donald Sterling. Seattle Seahawks All-Pro CB took to Twitter also about the Texans owner’s comments, “I can appreciate ppl being candid. Don’t apologize! You meant what you said. Showing true colors allows ppl to see you for who you are.” He’s dive then released a statement apologizing for his comments….

TOO LATE “Mind if a Slave Owner”. Some are surprised about his comments, honestly I’m not. ALL of the NFL owners are white 85% of the posters in the league are black. Of course the owners feel like they can make insinuating racial remarks and not feel any consequences. I understand that the team kneeled ding the anthem but I would have went even further and routes the team decal off my helmet in protest of the owner. We have to take a stand for what is right and what we believe in as a people. Wypipo pretty much still look at us blacks as the inferior race. Kudos to the Texans players but I need y’all to go at least a step further. #StandStrongTexans #ThePricelineHotTopics
