For many an invitation to perform {for free} for the Superbowl halftime show is an amazing opportunity. And not to say music and beauty icon Rihanna Fenty doesn’t feel the same way. But according to reports the offer was not more attractive than her principles.

The superstar was asked to perform for February 2019 game in Atlanta, but declined the offer based on the controversy surrounding the NFL’s stance on Colin Kaepernick

Organizers for the game “really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” a source told the news outlet. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”

Kaepernick, a former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, began kneeling during the national anthem at NFL games during the 2016 season to call attention to social injustices and racial inequality. It’s since sparked a national discussion about patriotism and has drawn the ire of President Trump.

Great example to set for young men and women out there. You don’t have to insert yourself in every {white} space that sees your humanity as secondary. And this isn’t to shame anyone who doesn’t feel like they’re in the position to turn down offers like this or feel passionately about justice enough to do so. This is a strong appreciation for those in a position powerful enough to exercise that privilege and do.

Qmunity, have you ever given up a really good opportunity that went against your principles?
