So “Straight Outta Compton” is happening and I’m ALL the way here for it. The N.W.A. biopic, set in 1980’s Compton, has the potential to be that cult classic black cinema desperately needs right now.  I loved L.A. gangsta movies from that era because they at least tried to wrap the story up with the theme that what was happening needed to change.  We don’t see that morality in it anymore.

Ice Cube and Dr. Dre both Tweeted out the above first official cast photo in response to Universal announcing the film will hit theaters Aug, 14, 2015.

Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., ‘Straight Outta Compton’ tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.

“We’re telling the story from the inception of N.W.A. to the death of Eazy-E and that’s the story,” Ice Cube said.

The movie is being produced by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E’s widow, Tomica Woods-Wright.  The cast photo features Ice Cube, director F. Gary Gray, Dr. Dre, Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre), Jason Mitchell (Eazy-E) and O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Ice Cube).

Who better to tell your story than you. I Can.Not.Wait.to see what they put together. Money isn’t going to be a problem, so I’m sure we’re going to get a project of the highest quality. The story-line is sure to be full of intrigue, drama, and street mess, so bring this through!

**Sidenote**

This is what i was talking about the other day on my Facebook page. We have to start telling our own stories. Putting in the work and putting out the product. Then you won’t have to complain about if the picked and actress of the correct hue or will the story be whitewashed. Tell the story yourself! granted Ice Cube and Dr. Dre are multimillionaires and billionaires, but the beauty of the story is they didn’t start out that way.  Gotta start somewhere.

**EndNote**

Can’t end this without giving a special shout out to New Orleans-based actor Jason Mitchell, whose already appeared in Broken City and Contraband.  I have a feeling that playing Eazy-E is going to be his breakout role, and we could see this camp at the Academy Awards. I’m thinking big.  I hope they  don’t hold anything back!
