From Deadline.com~

Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) and Jaden Smith (The Karate Kid, After Earth) are set to star in The Good Lord Bird, a big-screen adaptation of the 2013 National Book Award winner by James McBride (Miracle At St. AnnaRed Hook Summer).

McBride is aboard to produce the pic aboutHenry “Onion” Shackleford (Smith), a young slave who links up with radical abolitionist John Brown (Schreiber) in 1856 Kansas and travels the nation with Brown’s motley crew of freedom fighters. Story is told with a satirical bent through the eyes of Onion, who wears a dress and is at first mistaken for a girl, as he bears witness to Brown’s historic campaign and encounters the likes of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman en route to the bloody Harper’s Ferry raid that helped spark the Civil War. McBride’s NY Times bestseller made Publishers Weekly‘s Top 10 Books of the Year list and has drawn comparisons to Mark Twain’s classic novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

**Low deep soulful belly moans**

I’m so weary of this. There aren’t anymore examples that I can offer to show what the Hollywood agenda is here concerning the depiction of blacks. It’s no secret that there is an annual slave movie quota that Tinseltown must deliver to the controlling elite, but to up the ante and put Will and Jada’s son (Who is already too pretty to be a boy) in a dress??!!  So is there going to be some sort of homoerotic tension between the white abolitionist and the slave sissy?  Is that what this is gonna be? You know what?  Lemme calm down.  I’m sure I’m over-reacting here.  It’s just me and my post-racial paranoia I’m sure. I haven’t read the book so perhaps it’s a truly poignant coming of age tale of….who are we kidding.  It’s gonna be a coon shuffle. It’s going to be uncomfortable and awkward.  Folks are going to be sitting in the theaters caught off guard not knowing what the appropriate reaction should be.

I’m no longer here for this.  No. Honestly.  Why do we need this?  Whose asking for this? Why is this the only way they want to see us? Why are there are only certain roles THEY are let us play, but that are so destructive that we may as well not be in any.

I know. I’m jumping to conclusions.  I think I’m suffering from Hollywood slave pic overload, and the news that we’ll now have a cross-dressing slave isn’t sitting right with me.

Maybe someone whose read the book can chime in and give insight. Are you anxious to to see the next take on slavery for the big-screen?!
