The VitaminQ is a friend and supporter of the Qreative Qmunity of New Orleans. We have made a vow to be more active in that support, and there is no better opportunity to do so than our “Artist Spotlight” series highlighting the artists participating in the Beats and Brushstrokes : Day Trip this month. And the first is an artist I’ve been following for quite some time….

Beats N Brushstrokes Artist Spotlight

Ms. Cecilia Givens has been quoted as saying that “Life is best lived with authenticity, expression and intention. My work is a conversation involving the concepts of identity, culture, social issues, peace and empowerment.”

Her large, intimate portraits and narratives of people help visualize their energy and the message in the moment.  CC, primarily uses oils, and occasionally water-based media in layers and experimental brushstrokes using techniques that compliment both subject and environment. Her palette colors reflect the personality mood of each piece with additional emphasis on the non-verbal communication of gazes, gestures and juxtaposition.
